From Vision to Execution: Already Living the Agentic AI Future

Six months ago, if you had asked most people in our industry when agentic AI would start to reshape programmatic advertising, the honest answer would likely have been “soon, but not yet.”

Today, that answer no longer fits.

The future didn’t arrive on a fixed date. It came gradually, first as a concept we discussed, then as a reality taking shape inside campaigns, data pipelines, and commercial strategies.

Milan, Madrid: Two Cities, One Trajectory

Over the past half‑year, I’ve had the privilege of seeing that shift up close, not as an abstract trend, but as something tangible and measurable in our daily work with clients, publishers, and partners across our markets.

In March, we gathered our business community in Milan for one of our most forward-looking PubAcademy sessions. The subject was bold: agentic AI, presented as a genuine turning point for digital advertising.

The room was charged with curiosity and healthy skepticism. Together we explored questions that are central to our industry’s future:

  • Who leads when AI drives decisions?
  • How do we maintain trust as technology evolves faster than organisations?
  • And can AI create true marketing value rather than just efficiency gains?

The insight from Milan was pivotal. We were no longer debating whether agentic AI would transform programmatic trading, but how fast and who would be ready to act.

Only three months later, at PubAcademy Madrid, that conversation took a dramatic step forward. The tone had shifted from ideas to impact. Real campaigns running across the open internet, using agentic AI throughout their whole lifecycle, and outperforming benchmarks. In a single quarter, we moved from vision to execution, a clear sign of how fast the market is evolving.

The Question Has Changed

For years, the operating question was when AI would become fully functional in programmatic advertising. That question no longer applies.

Agentic AI is already planning, managing, and optimising media in real time, freeing teams to focus on creativity, strategy, and long term client outcomes. The new question is how quickly the rest of the market can keep pace.

Scaling agentic AI is not about flipping a switch. It depends on solid foundations: solid infrastructure, verifiable decision logic, accountable data flows, and transparency. Buyers and publishers now want to understand not just results, but reasoning; what signals informed decisions and how those signals shaped performance.

That depth of insight cannot be retrofitted. It has to be designed into the ecosystem from the start.

This is exactly where PubMatic’s approach proves its value. Long before the industry spoke about agentic systems, we built our technology around openness, interoperability, and trust. That groundwork now enables agentic AI to operate responsibly and effectively across the supply chain.

Markets That Drive the Shift

One of the most inspiring aspects of this transformation has been the proactive role of local markets such as Italy and Spain, to name a couple. Our regional teams, agencies, publishers, and brands have not waited for global directives; they have experimented, tested, and refined what agentic AI can achieve under real campaign conditions.

This local momentum matters. Global innovation only delivers sustainable value when it is grounded in local execution, driven by people who understand their markets, clients, and data realities.

The conversations in Milan and Madrid were not isolated. They were two chapters of one story that showed how curiosity and accountability can coexist, and how collaboration accelerates adoption when technology and trust evolve side by side.

Looking to the Second Half

As we move into the second half of the year, the pace of change shows no sign of slowing. Agentic AI is no longer reserved for early adopters; it is rapidly becoming the new operational standard.

The organisations that will lead the next phase are not simply those that spotted the trend early, but those building transparent, scalable, and responsible infrastructure to support it.

At PubMatic, that mission shapes everything we do. We help partners adopt agentic AI with confidence, ensuring that automation amplifies human creativity rather than replacing it. We are proving every day that efficiency and transparency can strengthen one another, driving measurable value for buyers and publishers alike.

We are not waiting for the future of agentic AI; we are already building and living it. One conversation, one campaign, and one trusted partnership at a time.

And if the past six months are any indication, the acceleration we have seen from Milan to Madrid is only the beginning.
