FROM STATIC DEALS TO DYNAMIC OUTCOMES: DECISION FABRIC IN ACTION
Earlier this year, PubMatic launched Decision Fabric, a proprietary intelligence layer built foundationally within the PubMatic unified advertising platform. Since launch, Decision Fabric has enabled decisioning to run natively at the point of supply, enabling informed decisioning throughout the impression journey, from budget to bid. By eliminating intermediary delays and overhead, Decision Fabric delivers better economics for buyers while giving direct access to complete market signals, all seamlessly integrated within PubMatic’s AI-powered platform.
One of the opportunities nested within Decision Fabric is Goal Based Optimization (GBO), a first-to-market innovation that uses machine learning to move advertisers from static inventory lists toward dynamic, outcome-focused optimization based on real-time performance signals. GBO has enabled advertisers to move decisioning upstream, resulting in improvements in campaign outcomes, greater efficiencies in working media, and activation workflows.
THE BUYER CHALLENGE
As buyers and brands prioritize outcome-based advertising, a structural gap has persisted: deals are packaged on the SSP but optimized on the DSP. This split creates operational friction, slows troubleshooting on underperforming deals, and often requires buyers to pay additional optimization fees.
THE SOLUTION
PubMatic has created infrastructure to bridge this gap by applying KPI-based optimization on the sell side. GBO, powered by Decision Fabric, steers eligible supply towards the KPI in real-time to ensure the overall deal meets or exceeds the advertiser’s specific target, rather than applying KPIs as scale-limiting gates. Traffic sent to the buyers’ DSPs becomes more relevant by default, increasing the concentration of high-performing inventory without adding a separate fee layer.
Activation teams keep existing DSP workflows while the SSP steers spend toward impressions likely to hit agreed KPIs (unique reach, target frequency, VCR, viewability) which improves delivery consistency and reduces the need for manual intervention.
USE CASE: REACH & FREQUENCY
National QSR brand looked to increase audience penetration while controlling frequency fatigue in programmatic video campaigns.
- Approach: Goal-based optimization was applied across primary DSP, optimizing for unique reach and applying strict frequency capping per day.
- Result: 50% increase in Average Daily Reach, leading to a 76% increase in spend delivery
A national insurance provider needed to bolster their upper-funnel efforts, driving more qualified, substantial reach against key target audiences.
- Approach: Goal-based optimization was applied at the inventory source to broaden the addressable audience, applying live signals to identify and reach qualified, engaged users
- Result: nearly 14% increase in Average Daily Reach, leading to a 41% increase in spend delivery
